High Access Work

Planned, essential roofscape maintenance

Including gutter and downpipe servicing and cleaning

 ·        50+ years combined experience
·         Intimate knowledge of historic building roofs
 ·        Careful planning for thoroughness and quality
·         Fully trained operatives for efficiency and safety

Diligent listed-property owners and managers know it's far easier and cheaper to prevent needless damage than to fix it after the fact. Without planned, regular maintenance relatively simple issues – the facts of life for heritage assets – can turn into complex and expensive structural problems.

Scheduled maintenance is even more important now as extreme weather events put heritage buildings at greater risk. In addition, bodies entrusted with the care of ancient buildings, such as parochial church councils (PCCs), are often obliged by grant providers like English Heritage to draw up a scheduled maintenance plan to protect the building’s structural integrity.

The Phillips & Curry annual plan provides owners and managers genuine peace of mind. We provide the essential roofscape care necessary to protect the fabric of any historic building. More than 50 years combined experience has given us intimate knowledge of heritage roofscapes: how they were crafted, how they behave as the seasons change, the vulnerable parts and the trouble spots.

An initial site survey creates the complete roof plan, detailing all gutters, lead valleys and downpipes. In consultation with you, and taking into account the building's condition and surroundings, we draw up a schedule of works to ensure that the building is not only protected but is also adapting to its environment. Each visit produces signed documentation so you can be sure all external gutters, lead valleys, hoppers and downpipes are in excellent working order.
Work at height: If only Nigel had called

As fans of radio show The Archers will know – recalling Nigel Pargetter's blood-curdling scream as he tumbled off the roof of Lower Loxley Hall – working at height requires unique skills. Heritage building owners are advised to select competent specialists to avoid needless cost and delays, and to fulfil their obligations under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

Few firms combine heritage building skills with work-at-height competence. We do. With decades of experience atop tall, listed structures, including churches, castles and stately homes, we've launched a dedicated division for working at height. Our investment in training and approach to managing risk allows our operatives to reach those difficult areas and carry out crucial repairs and maintenance safely and efficiently, minimising disruption to your operations. Clients find us particularly helpful on jobs that need doing but don't seem to justify the expense of a full scaffold. If only Nigel had called us...

Services include:

  • Planned gutter and downpipe maintenance
  • General roof repairs
  • Photographic surveys and reports
  • Steeple, spire and chimney masonry repairs
  • Installation of high level access systems, fabricated walkways & steps
  • Fall arrest systems
  • Leadwork including security and anti-theft applications
  • Mechanical platform access provided e.g. cherry pickers etc..
