Gobowen Station: Bringing a Railway Landmark Back to Life

We’re proud to share that our work on Gobowen Railway Station is now complete — and even prouder to say it’s been shortlisted for the National Heritage Railway Awards 2025.

Dating back to the 1840s and designed by the renowned architect Thomas Penson, Gobowen Station is a fine example of Italianate railway architecture. Sadly, a previous round of poorly executed repairs in the early 2000s left the building in a vulnerable state. That’s where Gobowen Railway Building Trust stepped in — and where we at Phillips & Curry were brought on board in 2024 to lead a more sensitive and lasting restoration.

his project has been about more than just repair — it’s been about restoring identity. We’re proud to have returned Gobowen Station to its rightful condition, and even more thrilled that the work has caught national attention.

It’s been a pleasure to work alongside the Gobowen Railway Building Trust, Tim Ratcliffe Associates, and Network Rail to deliver a result that balances heritage sensitivity with long-term durability.
